Support Services

PLSP Offers Telephone Counseling, Support Groups, and Referrals to bereaved families.

Telephone Counseling

PLSP is guided by a licensed social worker with extensive experience in pregnancy loss and pregnancy after loss. Our professionally trained volunteers, all of whom have participated in our program following their own pregnancy losses, provide personal and prompt nationwide telephone counseling for men and women. Both male and female volunteers are available.

Support Groups

Bereaved parents in the New York metropolitan area may join our support groups after an initial screening call with a PLSP professional. Our groups are facilitated by two trained volunteers who themselves have suffered a pregnancy loss. The same small group of participants gathers for six weekly evening meetings. At each meeting, a brief presentation is followed by an open discussion guided by the facilitators.

For Grandparents

Pregnancy loss can affect the whole family. PLSP is available to support grandparents, as they too mourn following the loss of a grandchild. If you’ve lost a grandchild, a trained phone counselor can help you process your own feelings of loss and find ways to support your child or in-law in their own experience.

For Medical Professionals

PLSP staff has experience training professionals from many disciplines including nurses, doctors, social workers, genetic counselors, child-life specialists and other healthcare providers to become crucial means of support for those dealing with pregnancy loss. We will work with you to offer a training tailored to any workplace setting.

Referrals

Our staff can make referrals to selected psychotherapists and mental health clinics in the New York metropolitan area.
